Volunteers for the Sailors’ Society are rewarded with an exclusive afternoon tea

The Bishop of Winchester played host to a number of supporters of the global charity Sailors’ Society at his historic home, Wolvesey. The Rt Revd Michael Scott-Joynt led a service which remembered seafarers and gave recognition to the hard work and tough conditions they encounter. The Sailors’ Society Principal Chaplain Rev. David Potterton also spoke at the service, sharing the experience of the charity’s Port Chaplains across the world, and highlighting how the charity were able to provide this practical and spiritual support to isolated seafarers across the globe, thanks to the hard work of their tireless supporters who raised the funds to make it all possible. Director of Fundraising Jan Webber said: “It was a wonderful day. We’d like to thank the Bishop of Winchester and his wife Lou for opening the doors to their beautiful house to help us thank our wonderful volunteers and donors. The service was both moving and inspiring, and we’re grateful for the Bishop’s help and support in raising awareness of the plight of seafarers across the globe, and thanking the outstanding Sailors’ Society supporters who donate and work tirelessly for our cause.” The event was such a success prompting another similar event to be held in November when the Bishop of Winchester will open the doors of Wolvesey again to thank more of the charity’s supporters.
