Teams already in training for challenge event in Cairngorms in September

Teams from companies across the marine and energy industries are signing up fast to take part in the new Wilderness Challenge on behalf of global charity, the Sailors’ Society. The event, sponsored by Lloyd’s Register, will see teams of four take on a 50km bike ride through the stunning Rothiemurchus Forest, a 3km canoe across the beautiful Loch Morlich and a 10km run at the Cairngorms National Park – and all in a single day. Marine consultancy Brookes Bell has entered three teams into the event and everyone is already hard at work in training and preparation. Angela Shaw from Brookes Bell and co-ordinator of the three teams entering the event said: “We are all looking forward to the event, and are relishing the prospect of this challenge! Most of us have started our training, mainly the running and cycling parts. We’ve taken our bikes to some off-road trails on a weekend and some members of our team play five-a-side football together. Hopefully we’ll fit in more training sessions before September as a big group! Our next step is to start our canoe training - finding a canoe and a lake is a bit more difficult!” Jan Webber, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at the Sailors’ Society said: “We would like to thank everyone who has already entered in to the Wilderness Challenge. It’s a tough challenge both physically and mentally, but it takes place in one of the most beautiful national parks in the country, and will raise much needed funds for seafarers across the world. 2010 is the International Maritime Organization’s Year of the Seafarer, and Sailors’ Society is aiming to raise £1 for every one of the thousands of seafarers we reach throughout the year. The funds from this event will go a long way to helping us to reach our target and we look forward to hearing from other companies who are interested in entering a team.” If you are interested in taking part in the Wilderness Challenge and raising funds for the Sailors’ Society, contact Felicity Paterson at fpatterson@sailors-society.org or telephone 023 8051 5957.
