A big band music concert held at Thorngrove School in Highclere, and supported by local law firm Gardner Leader LLP, has raised over £1,850 for charity. Over 120 people attended the event, which was held in aid of the Miriam Dean Fund, a small registered charity which finances projects and supports outreach work to some of the poorest people in Southern India and Africa. In partnership with established local groups, the Fund has helped to house, educate and improve the quality of life of so many people in need, especially children who are orphaned, handicapped, at risk or affected by AIDS. As well as a fabulous two-course supper, which was sponsored by Gardner Leader, the remarkable sound of the Wells Cathedral School Big Band entertained throughout the evening. As one of the five specialist music schools in the UK, it boasts some of the finest young musicians in the country, with many members destined for professional careers in music. Jenny Buchanan, Partner in the Family Team at Gardner Leader, is a trustee of the Miriam Dean Fund. She comments: “I’d like to thank Wells Cathedral School Big Band, Thorngrove School and Gardner Leader for generously donating their time, facilities and money to make this evening possible. My heartfelt thanks also go to all those who attended. It was a wonderful evening and the money they all helped to raise will really make a big difference to those in desperate need.” -Ends- Words: 249
