Charity event offers shipping industry the opportunity to strengthen relationships
Companies from the shipping industry are being invited to participate in what promises to be the most exciting event run by the Sailors’ Society this year. The charity’s Dragon Boat Challenge will be held on Saturday 27 June 2009, at Dorney Lake, near Eton – the chosen venue for the 2012 Olympic rowing events.
The organisers, along with sponsors Intertanko, Rightship and Cargill are encouraging companies to enter a corporate team and take advantage of a fantastic opportunity for team-building. Alternatively, businesses may wish to use the occasion to build and consolidate relationships with their valued clients or suppliers. There are only 15 team spaces remaining, so potential entrants are encouraged to get their entries in soon to avoid disappointment. Teams comprise of ten rowers and a drummer.
The event will be a competition made up of heats, with trophies for the winning teams and the highest fundraiser. All participants will receive coffee and a bacon roll for breakfast, along with a barbecue lunch. Each team will receive an additional 11 guest food passes, so that family and friends may come along and support them, whilst participating in some of the family-friendly activities that will run alongside the Challenge throughout the day.
Caroline Fenn, from London Offshore Consultants (LOC), said: “We have entered a team as we felt it would be a great opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause and to spend a day together enjoying each others company outside of work. I’m sure that racing against other teams from within the industry will bring an additional competitive element to the event.”
Some of the other organisations who have already entered teams are Rio Tinto, Cargill, Inchcape, Intertanko and the Marine Travel Company. Sponsorship of £3,000 per team is required for participation in this exciting event.
