Fareham Shopping Centre announces winner of design competition

To help decide the theme of this year’s Christmas Grotto, Fareham Shopping Centre has enlisted the help of Girlguiding Hampshire East, who have a store in the Centre opposite Millets, by running a grotto design competition. This week they announced the lucky winner – Sarah Collins (aged 7) from the 3rd Fareham Brownies. Six Brownie and Rainbow groups from across the East Hampshire area put their heads together and produced over one hundred entries for the competition, which was judged by Centre Director, Pam Marsden and Barbara Hall, the Media and Communications Advisor for Girlguiding Hampshire East. Sarah won a bag full of ‘Girlguiding goodies’ and a certificate which she collected with her Brownie leader, Janet Stow (Snowy Owl) this week. Janet commented: “I was extremely proud of the efforts of all my Brownies and it was lovely that a member of my pack was chosen. Well done Sarah!” Pam was thrilled with Sarah’s design and says: “We loved Sarah’s ‘workshop’ idea and our grotto this year will be a busy scene of elves hard at work and conveyor belts full of toys and presents as a result. I’d like to thank everyone who entered. The creativeness was wonderful and we sought inspiration from many of the other designs we received. We awarded highly-commended certificates to 28 other entries.” Santa’s Magical Workshop will open on Sunday 21st November at 11am. Information will be available in the Centre and at www.farehamshopping.com from 12th November 2010. -Ends- Words: 243
