Oats Cosmetics, in partnership with Canadian biotech company Ceapro Inc., has launched a unique ingredient that can promote glossy healthy hair, repair damaged skin and help reduce the physical signs of ageing.

The ingredient, CP Oat Beta Glucan, is a soluble fibre found in the cell walls of oat kernels. As a natural polymer, it stimulates the immune system and helps to heal wounds faster. When used in anti-ageing preparations, Beta Glucan has the ability to induce cellular activities that restructure the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. As Cark Maunsell, Managing Director of Oat Cosmetics, explains: “One of its functional properties is as a natural film former with better short and long-term hydration benefits when compared to hyaluronic acid. It can also effectively penetrate to the dermis where it can accelerate tissue healing as a cytokine inducer. This helps in repairing and healing skin.” In addition to its beneficial skin related properties, Beta Glucan helps improve tensile hair strength and significantly reduces breakage caused by bleaching. Ceapro's scientists were the first in the world to demonstrate the penetration of high molecular weight Beta Glucan into the skin and through their proprietary extraction and formulation technologies, Ceapro has produced a liquid Beta Glucan for use in nutraceuticals, personal care products, and pharmaceutical applications.
