Global maritime welfare charity, the Sailors’ Society, is appealing for runners interested in raising funds for them by taking part in the world famous London Marathon next year.

The Sailors’ Society raised a fantastic £35,000 from the marathon this year and is now looking for dedicated runners who wish to beat that figure, raising funds to support seafarers worldwide. Last year saw a truly international team take part – some of them battling through the ash cloud to arrive in London just in time. Funds raised will go towards the charity’s work supporting seafarers who face long periods of isolation and often grave danger as they fulfil their role keeping the wheels of global commerce turning. Jan Webber, Director of Fundraising for the Sailors’ Society said: “We’re keen to hear from people who want to run the marathon for us. We always look forward to getting to know the vibrant individuals who pledge their sponsorship money to our cause and hearing their own stories of how their lives are in some way touched by seafarers. As a charity, we provide international practical and spiritual support to seafarers and the money raised from this event always has a significant impact on helping us achieve our aims.” To find out more about the Sailors’ Society visit their website www.sailors-society.org or follow them on www.twitter.com/SailorsSociety To sign up for a place on the Sailors’ Society London Marathon team contact Jo Rich on 023 8051 5958 or email events@sailors-society.org Ends Words: 252
