Date: 28.08.09 Taylor Made Power Fareham IT firm plays major role in the development and future of Marchwood’s power plant Local computer solutions company Taylor Made are the brains behind an IT system that has solved document control, policy and procedural challenges at the new Marchwood power station in Southampton. Microsoft SharePoint, which is used to organise data, was proposed and implemented by Taylor Made Computer Solutions to help control and allocate documents, policies and manuals – all of which are vital to keep a power plant running smoothly and safely. Marchwood Power Ltd, who employs 44 staff, will provide electricity to around one million homes in the area, delivering energy to customers in Southampton, The New Forest and Winchester. The Marchwood plant will be one of the most efficient electricity generators in the country, whilst keeping environmental damage to a minimum. Richard Holman, General Manager of the plant said, “Taylor Made won the tender for our complex hardware and software needs and they have provided excellent support and advice for all our IT requirements. SharePoint was designed to fulfil all our documentation requirements and it is proving to be a great success in both its speed and flexibility.” The system enables highly sophisticated document management combined with rapid retrieval; this has aided in the construction of the plant and resulted in significant savings throughout the business. Managing Director of Taylor Made, Nigel Taylor said, “In the future we plan to expand the Microsoft SharePoint project even further to include technical drawings of the components and an offline support program so that engineers can take information with them as they work around the plant.” Marchwood Power is a joint business venture between ESB International and Scottish and Southern Energy, and is expected to open later this summer 2009.
