Cargill and Freight Investor Services (FIS) have come together as joint main sponsors of the Sailors’ Society’s prestigious Geneva Shipping Ball in November.

In 2008 the black tie event raised over £150,000 for the international maritime charity and offered the 470 guests the perfect occasion to entertain clients, friends and colleagues and network with key figures in the industry whilst also contributing to the vital work of the charity. The event will once again take place at the elegant InterContinental Hotel in Geneva, nestled close to Lake Geneva and offering a glorious view of the Alps. Gert-Jan (GJ) van den Akker, President of Cargill Ocean Transportation said “Cargill have supported the Sailors’ Society for many years now and we are thrilled to be sponsoring the Geneva Shipping Ball for the second time alongside FIS.” John Banaszkiewicz, Managing Director at FIS said “We are delighted to support such a worthwhile cause. The Geneva Shipping Ball is a great way for the industry to come together for an extremely enjoyable evening whilst raising awareness and funds to help support the seafarers on whom we all rely.” Director of Fundraising Jan Webber said: “We were delighted with the success of the event in 2008 and are glad to announce that it is back by public demand. We’re offering a number of sponsorship opportunities for companies who want to get involved in this exciting event and expect that, as this is the International Maritime Organization’s Year of the Seafarer, organisations from across the industry will be keen to support our work providing practical and emotional support to seafarers and their families.” All of the proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the work of the Sailors’ Society, an international charity that exists to enrich and enhance the well-being of the world’s 1.2 million seafarers. Taking place in the Grand Ballroom, the event will include a champagne reception, entertainment and a live auction and raffle to raise funds for the charity.
