Date: 22.07.09 Re-live the tremendous moment when England won at Lord’s through David Gower’s recollections of the Ashes 2009 Sailors’ Society London Shipping Charity Dinner, Long Room, Lord’s Cricket Ground On 29th October 2009, at the Sailors’ Society London Shipping Charity Dinner, David Gower will recount the moment that England won the Second Test at Lords, a first in 75 years! As the Test Matches continue there is no doubt that we are all in for much more excitement whether through Strauss’s batting or Flintoff’s bowling. If the last Ashes in England is anything to go by, everyone will be watching cricket as the final Test Match unfolds. The Sailors’ Society is giving you the opportunity to experience at first hand the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground (where we saw HM The Queen sitting in deep concentration on Friday 17th July). Dining in such opulent and historic surroundings presents a rare opportunity, for which many cricket enthusiasts will jump at the opportunity. The Sailors’ Society is thrilled that David Gower, OBE, celebrated cricketer and Sky Sports Presenter of the Ashes will be Guest Speaker on this occasion. David will tell about his tremendous career as well as reliving those wonderful moments from the current Ashes series. This special Charity Dinner will include a Drinks Reception in the fascinating Lord’s Museum, kindly sponsored by Weathernews Inc. This will be followed by a sumptuous dinner, great entertainment and a charity auction all to be enjoyed alongside other leaders of the shipping industry and fellow cricketing enthusiasts. Vicky Macleod, Sailors’ Society Events Fundraiser said: “The Sailors’ Society evening occasions have always given great enjoyment to our guests, providing them with a wonderful opportunity to entertain staff and clients at a memorable charitable event and raising much needed funds for the Society’s work with seafarers. We hope to have 200 shipping and marine professionals attending along with members from other related industries, many of whom will be keen cricketers. We’ve already had bookings and enquiries from several companies, including Investec and GAC Services”. Lord’s, “The Home of Cricket”, is renowned as the most historic cricket ground in the world. The Long Room, hung with beautiful paintings and at the heart of cricket’s grandest clubhouse, is a magnificent setting for the Sailors’ Society London Shipping Charity Dinner. Cricketing legend David Gower is well known for his outstanding England cricketing career, hitting 8,231 runs for England in 117 tests, and more recently for his scintillating coverage of The Ashes for Sky Sports. David is an excellent speaker as illustrated by his Ashes coverage. Book your table now, before it’s too late by calling 023 8051 5958 or emailing events@sailors-society.org .
