Team from Lands’ End clothing take on the Sailors’ Society Wilderness Challenge

Ruby the Jack Russell terrier has been pushing a team of fundraisers from clothing brand Lands’ End to their limits as they take on the challenge of a lifetime to raise funds for the global charity Sailors’ Society. The Wilderness Challenge is a tough event which takes place in the Highlands of Scotland and sees teams of four complete a 50km bike ride through the stunning Rothiemurchus Forest, a 3km canoe across the beautiful Loch Morlich and a 10km run in the Cairngorms National Park – and all in a single day. Ruby, owned by Jason Smith, the editor of Canoe and Kayak UK Magazine, who has been helping the Lands’ End team with their training, has become such a valuable part of the training sessions that she’s now been nominated as the voice of their fundraising campaign. To hear more from Ruby and make your donation, visit www.justgiving.co.uk/landsenduk Margaret Blackburn from Lands’ End said: “We’ve all been working hard to train for the Wilderness Challenge, and Ruby has become a vital part of our training sessions. She has bags of energy and a very strong stubborn streak, so we think she has a lot to teach us as we take on the wilds of the Cairngorms. With just over a month to go before we take on the challenge, we’re trying to get in as much training and be as prepared as we can for the event.” Jan Webber, Director of Fundraising at the Sailors’ Society added: “We’ve already had great support from Lands’ End for our Woolly Hat campaign in previous years and this year they’ve further honoured their maritime heritage by taking part in the event. The Corporate and Teamwear division will also be providing commemorative polo shirts for all the participants to wear at the prize giving dinner and as a souvenir of the participants’ experience in the Cairngorms. We’re sure that Ruby will help the team to cross that finish line.” If you would like to take part in the Wilderness Challenge or would like any further information, then please contact Felicity Patterson at fpatterson@sailors-society.org, find them on twitter @SailorsSociety or telephone 023 8051 5957.
