Cargill and Rightship to sponsor fundraising event climbing Mount Kanabalu

Sailors’ Society has confirmed that Rightship are joining Cargill as main sponsors of their new Asian Challenge event, which takes place in April next year. The event, which will see 40 teams of three people from across the shipping industry climb Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, takes place immediately before Singapore Maritime Week and Sea Asia. Climbers will be aiming to reach the summit at sunrise and enjoy spectacular scenery and some of the most outstanding flora and fauna to be seen anywhere in the world. Director of Fundraising Jan Webber said: “We are delighted to confirm the support of our sponsors, Cargill and Rightship. The Asian Challenge is a new event for the Sailors’ Society and we are sure it will be a huge success. We’ve got a strong presence across Asia and we’re hoping to build on the work we do there. As well as sponsors Cargill and Rightship, we’d like to thank Andrew Moore and Associates, who are sponsoring the post-event Prize Giving dinner, when the climbers will be enjoying a well earned rest after their 4,095 metre climb.” Despite being in its first year as a fundraising event, places are filling up fast and the Sailors’ Society has been overwhelmed with teams from a range of companies including the event sponsors, and key industry names such as Swire, M3 marine, Infospectrum, Chemoil, O’Keeffe and Partners, Holcim, World Fuel Services, Clarksons, Wallem, Hallin Marine, BHP Billiton, Thome, C-Mar, Ifchor, LOC and Pacific Basin. “There is no doubt that it will be a tough climb, but also a rewarding experience for the teams who take part,” added Jan Webber. “We know that some of the teams have already started their training and we’re looking forward to hearing from other companies who would like to enter a team and take part in this unique event. There are also other sponsorship opportunities up for grabs, including the sponsorship of rucksacks, polo shirts and the pre-event briefing dinner and we’d like to hear from anyone interested in this.” For further information on the event and the Sailors’ Society please contact Felicity Patterson on 023 8051 5957 or email fpatterson@sailors-society.org.
