Charity supporting seafarers across the globe provides a range of ways for churches to recognise Sea Sunday

Sea Sunday takes place on 11th July and gives an opportunity to celebrate the way seafarers enrich our lives, and recognise the value of the Church’s ministry to them. Sailors’ Society is an international charity which provides practical and spiritual support to seafarers across the globe and they have created a resource pack for churches, including a moving Moment of Reflection written by Christian authors and activists Adrian and Bridget Plass. Thousands of churches around the world will be remembering seafarers - who are often away from their families for long periods of time undertaking dangerous and challenging work - and the Sailors´ Society Port Chaplains who dedicate their lives to caring for them. The resource pack helps church leaders provide reflection on Sea Sunday which will both inform and encourage their congregation to think about the seafarers’ life and our support for them. • Complete liturgy for a Sea Sunday Service • A selection of prayers relating to seafarers and the maritime world • An inspirational list of songs and readings for a Sea Sunday Service • Children’s talk As well as this, the Sailors’ Society is providing a Moment of Reflection entitled Release the Scent written and recorded by Adrian and Bridget Plass especially for Sea Sunday. This PowerPoint presentation is available to download free of charge and features powerful images and words focusing on the isolation which many seafarers experience whilst away from home.
