This autumn sees the addition of two new faces at the Sailors’ Society. Miranda Nugent has joined the team as the new Trust and Corporate Officer and Jo Rich will be providing maternity cover as the Events Fundraiser and PR Co-ordinator. Miranda has recently completed a Masters in Creative Writing and has joined the Sailors’ Society as her first role in fundraising. Jo graduated with a degree in Events Management in 2009 and joins the charity from a London-based children’s charity. Their arrival coincides with a particularly busy time for the global charity, which has been working on campaigns to raise awareness of the IMO Year of the Seafarer and events which raise funds to provide support for seafarers across the globe. Events include memorial services for Merchant Navy Day and World Maritime Day and their new endurance event, The Wilderness Challenge, later this month. Set in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, the event will encompass trail running, mountain biking in the forests of Glenmore, Abernethy and Rothiemurchus, and kayaking on Loch Morlich. Jo said: “It’s a busy time at the Sailors’ Society and an exciting time to be joining the team. I am looking forward to the broad range of events we have going on, and meeting all the fantastic, energetic and really committed supporters of the charity. As this is the IMO Year of the Seafarer, the donations and tributes we’ve received are particularly moving.” Miranda added: “This is my first role in fundraising, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to join. Everyone is enthusiastic and committed to the mission of the charity to help seafarers across the globe, who face daily dangers and long periods of isolation. I’m looking forward to working with everyone here to make a real difference both at the charity and to seafarers’ lives.” To find out more about the Sailors’ Society visit www.sailors-society.org or follow them on Twitter at http://twitter.com/SailorsSociety.
