Date 20/10/2009 Saints star and lifelong supporter put seafarers’ charity in the spotlight Saints Defender Dan Harding thanks Sailors’ Society supporter Arthur Yarney When Eastleigh resident and life-long Saints supporter Arthur Yarney became the official sponsor of Saints defender Dan Harding, he decided to forgo the honour of seeing just his name in the season’s match day programmes. Instead, he arranged for the Sailors’ Society logo to appear alongside, giving the Shirley-based International charity more of the recognition he believes it deserves. Retired Mr Yarney said: “I have been a Saints fan all my life and remember my merchant seaman father taking me to games and standing in the Archers Road stand at The Dell. My father was an Engineer and sailed the Union Castle and Royal Mail lines during the Second World War. “I am very proud to honour his memory by sponsoring Dan, whilst promoting the Sailors’ Society and all the good work it does for both current and retired seafarers here and abroad.” The Sailors’ Society is an international charity that provides a personal lifeline for seafarers and their families throughout the world.
