Powerful antioxidant, anti-irritant produced from GM-Free Oats

Oat Cosmetics, one of the industry’s newest ingredient suppliers, is launching its latest product, CP Oat Avenanthramides. Colloidal oatmeal has been used for centuries for soothing the skin. In 2003, colloidal oatmeal was recognised as a skin protectant for the relief of a variety of dermatoses by the FDA. Scientists at Oat Cosmetics’ Canadian manufacturing partner, biotech specialist Ceapro Inc, were the first to discover the link between the traditional use of colloidal oatmeal for alleviating red, itchy and inflamed skin, and naturally occurring Avenanthramides in oats. Oat Avenanthramides can only be obtained from the cereal crop oats and are thought to act as a defence mechanism against the invasion of bacteria and fungi. They are powerful antioxidants and suppress histamine production at very low levels of 0.5ppm. Ceapro has used its unique ‘green’ extraction technology to manufacture CP Oat Avenanthramides, a standardised 100ppm solution of amber colour and low odour that has a guaranteed content of active ingredients from GM-Free renewable resources. It is suitable for all water-based cosmetic product applications where its non-steroidal anti-inflammatory action will relieve itching and reduce inflammation. It has been shown to reduce skin and hair peroxidation and effectively prevents DNA damage from UV exposure.
