Loopia acquires .SE Direkt from the Swedish Internet Foundation
Loopia acquires the Swedish Internet Foundation's registrar business .SE Direkt. As of mid-February, .SE Direkt's customers will have Loopia as registrar for their domains.
.SE Direkt has been part of the Swedish Internet Foundation since 2009 and functions as their own registrar business. In October, the Swedish Internet Foundation announced the decision to sell .SE Direkt and began receiving offers from various interested parties. After a thorough review of all stakeholders, the process is now complete and Loopia will buy the business.
– .SE Direkt currently has a limited range of services and since the start in 2009, we have had a decreasing customer base. We have now reached a point where we have to invest in a new technical infrastructure to be able to offer our customers a continued stable and reliable service. At the same time, there is a risk that it will be difficult to keep .SE Direkt profitable in the long term. Therefore, the Swedish Internet Foundation has decided that it is better for everyone to divest .SE Direkt to a company that can take better care of our customers even in the long run, says Danny Aerts, CEO of the Swedish Internet Foundation.
Loopia currently has over 225,000 customers and is a market leader in Sweden within domain names and web hosting.
– This gives us the opportunity to help even more individuals and companies to a safe and successful presence on the internet. The acquisition of .SE Direkt is also an important part of Loopias strategy to consolidate the domain name and web hosting market in the Nordic region, says Jimmie Eriksson, CEO of Loopia.
The move of .SE Direkt's customers to Loopia will be starting February 12. Customers who have .SE Direct as their registrar do not need to do anything in during the move, and all domain names will continue to function as usual.

With Loopia’s acquisition of .SE Direkt customers get a wider range of services and package solutions they can choose from.

In addition, it will now be easier for customers to supplement with more top-level domains and to add popular services such as e-mail and websites linked to their domain name.
