Recently our CEO, Sara Laurell, and our Head of Data & Analytics and Pricing, Lars Johansson, took part in a panel discussion on the topic “Know your carbon footprint”. The discussion was held together with EcoDataCenter at the Datacloud Global Congress in Monaco.

EcoDataCenter is the world's first climate-positive data center and runs on one hundred percent renewable electricity and the heat produced by the servers is used for the production of renewable biofuels and heating of buildings in and around the city of Falun, among other things. Last year we started our journey to becoming even more sustainable by moving into EcoDataCenter in Falun, Sweden.

The data center industry does not have any real standards when it comes to sustainability reporting, EcoDataCenter is changing this by creating a monthly Climate Report for their partners, based on the standards of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP).

- We as a company want to take the lead in creating a more sustainable internet industry and to be able to do that we need to have full control of our carbon footprint, says Sara Laurell, CEO of Loopia Group. EcoDataCenter does not only help us become more sustainable by using renewable energy for our servers, but also by providing these monthly reports. Awareness is the key to improvement and by knowing more about our carbon footprint, we can work on improving it.

Our latest monthly report states that we use a data center for our services that have a much smaller carbon footprint than the average data center in Sweden. If we exclude the CO2 emissions from building the data center, which is equally distributed to all its clients, we can proudly say that we are climate positive.
