SOS Kit Aid joins forces with Woodlands Group

Chelmsford based logistics company Woodland Group is pleased to announce it has entered into a two year partnership agreement with sports kit recycling charity SOS Kit Aid.

The partnership will see the Woodland Group provide efficient, cost effective worldwide logistical support to the charity, which currently sends recycled sports kit to over 20 developing countries throughout the world.

Since joining forces with the Lord’s Taverners in 2011, SOS Kit Aid has enabled 48,000 young people worldwide to play rugby, cricket and squash by providing them with the appropriate kit. During 2013, SOS Kit Aid supported disadvantaged young people in the UK and 17 overseas countries, saving 121.7 tonnes in CO2 emissions – equivalent to the carbon emissions of 25 cars or energy use of six homes in one year.

SOS Kit Aid is a joint venture between the Lord's Taverners and the SOS Kit Aid charity. The charity's aim is to recycle sports kit for the benefit of young people in the UK and overseas. In 12 years more than £3.5m of recycled kit has been distributed to over 135,000 young people in the UK and abroad.

On the partnership Woodland Group, Managing Director, Sean Kirby said: “Woodland is proud to work in partnership with SOS Kit Aid and the Lord’s Taverners and to support a programme that can have a real impact on under privileged kids throughout the world.”

John Broadfoot, CEO of SOS Kit Aid, said: “We are thrilled to be linking up with the Woodland Group as there is a real synergy between our organisations, this partnership allows us to dramatically increase the efficiency of our current logistics capability, this in turn enables us to help many more disadvantaged children in the world.”

About SOS Kit Aid

SOS Kit Aid, supported by The Lord's Taverners, the IRB (International Rugby Board), the ICC (International Cricket Council) and the WSF (World Squash Federation), provides second hand and new rugby, cricket and squash kit to disadvantaged young people in the UK and overseas by collecting unwanted kit from UK schools, clubs and other bodies.

SOS Kit Aid recycles sports kit for the benefit of young people in the UK and overseas so they are given a sporting chance. The programme makes a positive and tangible impact on children’s lives by giving them the chance to participate in sporting activities; promote social inclusion; and protect the environment.
Rugby and cricket kit can be collected UK-wide, however squash kit will be collected in London-only. A list of affiliated squash clubs is listed on the website (www.lvsoskitaid.com/i-want-to-donate/)

SOS Kit Aid was previously a rugby only organisation started in 2001 by John Broadfoot, an ex-rugby player. He started by supplying second hand kit to Romania and has since produced over £3.5million worth of donated sports kit which has been sent to 26 developing countries.

SOS Kit Aid helps protect the environment through recycling. Over 500 tonnes of CO2 emissions are saved by manufacturing less new kit. Over 135 tonnes of perfectly good rugby and cricket kit would now be lying in environmentally damaging UK landfill sites if it had not been intercepted by the programme.

SOS Kit Aid is a corporate joint venture between the Lord’s Taverners and SOS Kit Aid Ltd. The new venture has charitable status and you can find more information at www.soskitaid.com.
