30 June 2010 Lufthansa’s major growth between Manchester and Munich 2010 growth defies ash cloud and economic uncertainties Lufthansa has seen major growth in the number of passengers carried between Manchester and Munich during the first five months of 2010 despite the impact of both the volcanic ash cloud and the economic uncertainty. Figures for May show an increase of 67.5 per cent compared with the same month last year reaffirming the airline’s confidence in increasing capacity on the route. Even the disruption caused by the volcanic ash cloud in March and April did not prevent the growth with passenger numbers still up by 14.6 per cent in April and 38.5 per cent in March. “To achieve this level of increase amid the challenges the industry faced during the period is nothing short of remarkable”, says Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa General Manager UK & Ireland, said: “We took the decision to substantially increase capacity on our flights between Manchester and Munich and our confidence in the route has paid off. The figures continue to show that people wanting to travel the world from the North West are looking for alternatives to the congested London airports. More than sixty per cent of our passengers from Manchester are taking advantage of the quick and easy 35 minute onward connection time Lufthansa offers through Munich. I believe travellers are becoming increasingly aware that they can get value for money from a full service airline and are safe in the knowledge that their money is secure with a financially sound operator.” Lufthansa’s competitive fares between Manchester and Munich include all taxes and charges starting from £49 one way and £89 return for economy with Business class fares from £259 one way and £499 return.
