Upcoming international seminar: Green Economy – the right path for a sustainable economy?
On Friday, 21 September, the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University is organizing an international seminar, titled ‘Green Economy: Managing the transition to a sustainable economy?
The seminar is supported by the Swedish Energy Agency and will be held in the premises of the IIIEE in Lund, Tegnérsplatsen 4. The seminar will bring together a selected group of experts to explore and debate such questions. Prof. Dr. Anyl Markandya, a renowned scholar in this area and author of the “A New Blueprint for a Green Economy” (with Ed Barbier) will be the keynote speaker. A panel discussion will provide the opportunity to listen to up-to-date information and experience, as experts share and discuss their views.
While policy interest keeps growing, there are numerous questions to be answered: Is a Green Economy the right path to address the ‘perfect’ equity, ecological and economic storm our society faces today? How does a green economy relate to the goals of sustainable development? What barriers and structural adjustments need to be considered for its successful implementation? Are implemented policies living up the expectations? What is the role of low-carbon technologies?
A green economy has become a topic of increasing policy attention. The main umbrella topic of the Rio+20 Earth Summit Brazil this year (June 20-22) was in fact the ‘Green Economy’. High-level attention has been given because there are growing concerns that our traditional economic growth model has created significant losses of natural capital, produced disturbances in our climatic system, triggered social inequalities, and even proven to be economically unstable – in particular after the financial crisis in 2008.
Time: Friday 21 September, 09.00 – 12.00
Venue: The main aula at IIIEE, The International Institute for Industrial Economics, Tegnérsplatsen 4 in Lund.
