STEPHEN WEBSTER PARTNERS WITH ZULTANITE GEMS

Celebrated UK designer creates a limited collection of spectacular Zultanite jewelry

Las Vegas – Some designers stick to the classics, betting on the basics to make a sale. Three-time British Luxury Jeweler of the Year Stephen Webster is quite the opposite: he prefers the exception rather than the rule. This love of the unusual found a match in Zultanite, an extremely rare color changing Diaspore only found in one place in the world – Turkey’s remote Anatolian Mountains.

“If there is a chance to work with a new material that I feel has a place in the world of Webster, I want to be there early,” explains Webster. “I’m particularly interested in the phenomenon of color change stones, and it’s compelling to be able to offer my customers a gem that has a point of difference from the marketplace.”

Zultanite is marked by its chameleon-like nature. Contrasting colors change from kiwi greens with flashes of canary yellow under sunny skies, to rich champagnes in traditional indoor lighting and raspberry hues in candlelight.

Made up of stunning earrings, pendants and bold cocktail rings, the celestially-inspired collection also features black and white diamonds. The centerpiece is Sultan’s Shield, a 96.20 carat Zultanite faceted by master cutter Stephen Kotlowski (BS, GG) of Newburgh, New York and set into a spectacular necklace. Weighing 72.53 grams as an original raw crystal and recognized as the world’s largest Zultanite, the stone took 30 hours to complete.

The collection was unveiled at an exclusive event during the 2011 Couture show in Las Vegas. Invitation-only top retailers, media and select industry professionals joined Webster and Zultanite at Haze nightclub in City Center’s Aria Hotel for a Superhero themed launch party featuring a performance by the UK’s Band of Skulls.

Zultanite cocktails were on hand, with three distinct drinks representing the color change properties of the stone. “Day”, “Noon” and “Night” libations showed the transition from kiwi to champagne to raspberry that is unique to Zultanite.
