LynuxWorks shows unique IoT security solutions at Embedded World
Key security conference paper and demos of LynxOS 7.0 and LynxSecure show how the IoT can be better protected
Nuremberg, Germany – February 24th, 2014 – LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in real-time embedded solutions, will present insight and technology addressing the protection of the Internet of Things and connected embedded devices from malicious cyber threats at the Embedded World Conference 2014 (stand 5-358).
John Blevins, Director of RTOS products at LynuxWorks said, “As embedded devices become more connected to the outside world and to each other, to meet the demand of the Internet of Things, so the threat of malicious attacks becomes a reality with potentially catastrophic results. Much key industrial and commercial infrastructure is now controlled by these embedded devices. The weak underbelly of the M2M revolution is security. How can these M2M devices be protected as effectively as desktop computing resources despite their much more limited processor and memory resources?”
LynuxWorks will be presenting technical insights into these issues with a paper titled “Security – the soft underbelly of the M2M revolution” at the conference and by demonstrating its security products on their stand at Embedded World in Nuremberg from February 25th to February 27th.
Security – the soft underbelly of the M2M revolution
John Blevins, Director of RTOS products at LynuxWorks, is presenting this key security paper on Thursday February 27th, 2014 at 9:30am. It reviews security technologies and other operating system level functions that can be used to secure M2M devices used in the IoT within the constraints of the embedded environment, and without unduly limiting their performance. LynuxWorks has added significant security extensions to its LynxOS RTOS and can utilize its military-grade LynxSecure virtualization platform to help protect connected devices on the IoT.
Internet of Things security product demonstrations
LynuxWorks will be demonstrating key parts of its security product portfolio showing how the embedded sensors, aggregators & routers, and even endpoints & servers can be protected using the LynxOS 7.0 RTOS and/or LynxSecure embedded hypervisor.
LynxOS 7.0
As more embedded devices connect to the Internet and each other, LynxOS 7.0 meets the increasing security requirements for real-time operating systems. LynxOS 7.0 brings military-grade security features into the operating system allowing developers to embed these features as they design their system, rather than adding security as an afterthought. This security can be used to protect both user accessible and also M2M based embedded devices, and includes features such as access control lists, audit, quotas, local trusted path, account management, trusted menu manager and OpenPAM.
LynxSecure
The LynxSecure “Type-0” hypervisor is an award winning bare-metal architecture, designed by LynuxWorks, that differentiates from type 1 hypervisors by removing the un-needed functionality from the “security sensitive” hypervisor mode, yet virtualizes the guest OS in a tiny stand-alone package. By combining the best-of-breed capabilities of the separation kernel technology and virtualization, LynxSecure provides unmatched capabilities to run one or more guest OS (real-time or GPOS) on embedded, desktop or server platforms.
LynxSecure provides one of the most flexible secure virtualization solutions for use in Intel® architecture-based embedded and IT computer systems. Designed to maintain the highest levels of military security and built-from-the-ground-up to achieve it, LynxSecure offers an industry-leading combination of security with functionality, allowing developers and integrators to use the latest software and hardware technologies to build complex OS-based systems.
