Created to allow girls to focus on waves and not wardrobe malfunctions, Calavera features unique performance-enhancing details and cutting-edge, stylish design

Newport Beach, CA (May 17, 2011) – Calavera Swimwear announces the launch of its debut swimwear collection, a line of bikinis created specifically for female surfers that not only stays in place through all the physical demands of surfing but features unique, edgy fabrics and customizable combinations.  Calavera bikinis are designed specifically for independent, adventurous women who want to showcase their personal style without losing the functionality of performance-minded swimwear.  Developed and manufactured in the USA, the Calavera Swimwear Collection will officially launch Memorial Day Weekend and will be available for purchase online via the Calavera Web Shop.

Founded by passionate surfer and savvy businesswoman, Anna Jerstrom, Calavera’s designs are grounded in the philosophy that female surfers should not be distracted by their bikinis but rather empowered by them.  Calavera swimwear is constructed with a unique design and intelligent mix of materials typically only available in men’s surfwear such as Velcro, fillers and low-flexibility materials to improve fit and limit the stretch yet allow for easy adjustments.  Calavera bikini tops also feature tie-up solutions that reduce stress on the neck from the string ties and strong elastic bands that allow the tops to remain securely in place no matter how brutal the surf session.

“The better I became at surfing the more I realized how difficult it is to find a bikini that both looks good and stays on while getting pounded by waves,” explains Jerstrom.  “I was inspired to create Calavera as a much-needed swimwear alternative for surfer girls who don’t want to sacrifice fashion for function.  Calavera surfers are able to focus on becoming better surfers, and not on whether their bikinis are malfunctioning.”

Before public release, Calavera Swimwear bikinis were rigorously field-tested in the company’s birthplace of Jaco, Costa Rica by the Calavera Surf Team that includes Costa Rica’s number one ranked female surfer Jordan Hundley and rising surf star Evie Johnstone.

"As a competitive surfer the last thing I want to think about when I see the perfect wave is whether or not my swimsuit is going to stay on,” adds Hundley.  “Calavera's swimwear line is awesome because the suits stay in place and look great both in and out of the water.  I love how I can mix and match the bikinis to bring my own style out when I’m in my element."
