Contest winners to land tablet publishing deal worth £1,700

LONDON – 7 December 2011: Mag+ has today announced the finalists in its inaugural Creativity Contest, aimed at identifying great magazine app design talent and ideas.

In making its selection, the Mag+ jury considered entries coming in from six countries, from New Zealand to Scandinavia, and across a range of traditional and non-traditional publishing concepts.

From today, the public is invited to choose one of the contest’s two winners from the jury’s shortlist. The second winner will be selected by the Mag+ panel of judges. Each winner will receive a prize worth £1,700 – letting them publish their dream app to the iPad for free.

Voting is now open: To view the finalists submissions and vote go to: www.magplus.com/finalists. The concept with the most votes by 3pm Eastern Standard Time on 16 December 2011 wins the public vote.

Unbounded talent

Mag+’s Creativity Contest, launched in mid-October, asked designers to innovate for the iPad, using the Mag+ design and publishing platform to demonstrate the look and structure of an idea.

“We were thrilled at receiving such a high quality of entries from far and wide,” says Linda Wakeham, Marketing Manager at Mag+. “It’s quite remarkable what these talented people were able to do in such a short space of time; they’ve delivered great concepts for their dream iPad app, in fully functional MIBs*. And these really do showcase what’s possible with Mag+.”

The Mag+ jury, comprising Mike Haney, Director, US; Matt Cokeley, Creative Director, US; and Jacob Nordström, Creative Director, Europe; has named the following three as finalists:

1. BLACK by Ryan Hoback

21-year-old from Bellingham Washington, USA.

Through storytelling, photography and interactive design, this magazine gives people the chance to learn, share and become part of something special.

2. MILK by Natasha Mead

21-year-old design student based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Milk is a DIY fashion magazine exclusively for the iPad. Each issue features six to nine new and easy-to-follow tutorials ranging in cost and time required. Taking its cue from street style as well as high fashion trends, Milk is a source of both inspiration and instruction.
