FIMECCsigned strategic research cooperation agreement with RWTH Aachen University and Tampere University of Technology on November 2nd in Aachen. The agreement opens wide collaboration potential for mechanical engineering andmanufacturing in Finland and Germany.

The purpose of the agreement is twofold:
◦To keep FIMECC informed on such research initiatives that are prepared at RWTH Aachen or TUT and have relation to FIMECC's SRA. This will increase all FIMECC shareholders’ and program participants’ possibilities to be taken into account as potential consortium members when EU proposals are prepared.
◦To keep RWTH Aachen and TUT informed on FIMECC research plans in order to improve the potential of these organizations to make FIMECC research as high-level and international as possible from the first drafts on.

“Important part of FIMECC internationalization is building networks with world’s leading innovation centers relevant to our SRA. RWTH Aachen is one of the best universities in Germany and FIMECC shareholders recognize RWTH as a global knowledge creation leader in mechanical engineering”, says Dr. Harri Kulmala, CEO of FIMECC Ltd.

“TUT works in many roles within FIMECC. We now institutionalize our continuous and valuable cooperation with RWTH. We can offer practical solutions like research exchange infrastructure to FIMECC platform, and can increase FIMECC shareholders’ willingness and capabilities to participate in European research cooperation”, states Prof. Markku Kivikoski, president of TUT.

“We respect the industry-driven public-private-partnership FIMECC has created in Finland to a very high volume. This kind of platform offers us an efficient way to identify relevant research themes and to find those willing to carry out the work in Finland”, Prof. Christian Brecher, professor at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering and Excellence Cluster "Integrative production technology for high-wage countries" at RWTH Aachen, motivates the signing of the agreement.
