Free youth baseball clinic to feature Rene Gonzales, Todd Haney and members of Team Australia

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Australian youth will have an opportunity to play with their big league heroes at the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) Legends for Youth baseball clinic series coming to Sydney, Australia in conjunction with Major League Baseball’s 2014 Opening Series. The MLBPAA’s second trip to Australia this year will feature Rene Gonzales, a 13-year MLB veteran who played for the Expos, Orioles, Blue Jays, Angels, Indians, Rangers and Rockies, and Todd Haney, former Expos, Cubs and Mets second baseman. Players from Team Australia will also be present for the events.* In partnership with Training With The Pros and the Fanzone Roadshow, Clinics and autograph sessions will occur from Saturday, March 15th through Sunday, March 23rd, as listed below.

The 2014 Opening Series, held at the Sydney Cricket Grounds, honors the 100thanniversary of MLB teams playing in Australia. In 1914, the Chicago White Sox faced the New York Giants in an exhibition game, also at the Sydney Cricket Grounds.

The clinics will take place in in Sydney and the surrounding area at various venues. Each of the five clinics will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Clinicians will train at stations including pitching, catching, base running and life skills for approximately 200 local youth ages 6 – 16. The afternoon will conclude with an autograph session and goodie bag giveaways for children in attendance.

  • Monday, March 17: Legends for Youth Clinic held at Westfield High School
  • Tuesday, March 18: Legends for Youth Clinic held at The Hills Sports High School
  • Wednesday, March 19: Legends for Youth Clinic held at Endeavour High School
  • Thursday, March 20: Legends for Youth Clinic held at Redfern Community Center
  • Friday, March 21: Legends for Youth Clinic held at Randwick Boys High School
