Volvo orders new computer aided test system from Mandator Volvo Truck Corporation has signed an agreement with Mandator for the delivery of a new test system for vehicle development. The order is worth some 4 MSEK. Delivery is scheduled for 2000. "Mandator has delivered similar systems to Volvo Car Corporation for years, with very good results," says Jan Gunulf, responsible for COMTEST at Mandator. "This order is a break-through for COMTEST at Volvo Truck, which previously built this sort of system in-house. It is of strategic importance for Mandator's commitment to industrial IT solutions". The end-to-end delivery builds on COMTEST, Mandator's solutions concept. COMTEST is a general-purpose measurement and testing system. It contains many functions tailor-made for advanced functional testing. Other than the software, Mandator's commitment includes the delivery, installation and commissioning of software, PCs and I/O-systems as well as the training of Volvo personnel. Volvo will use COMTEST as a tool to secure quality in the development of new truck models. COMTEST manages the entire testing chain, from preparing, executing and controlling the test to presenting and evaluating the test data. "We were not only looking for a supplier but also for a partner who can help us develop many of the special functions our testing needs to verify that our products are top notch", says Carl-Ove Kolmodin, Volvo's project manager for the construction of the new vehicle laboratory. "A decisive factor was Mandator's wealth of good references and its vast experience of custom-designed testing systems."
