Leading automotive engineering consultancy showcases innovative approach to vehicle design and build in new exhibition at Coventry Transport Museum

5th August 2015, Coventry, UK... A fascinating new installation by Concept Group International at the recently renovated Coventry Transport Museum reinforces the world-class status of the company in the field of vehicle design, engineering and prototype build, as well as celebrating the city’s importance on the global automotive stage.

As one of the key participants in the new Pioneering The Future exhibition at the museum - which has recently reopened after an extensive £9.5m, 15-month regeneration - Concept Group is showcasing its innovative, engineering-led approach to vehicle design, build and validation, providing a modern twist in line with the exhibition’s theme to complement the celebration of Coventry’s industrial heritage.

“Concept Group’s late founder Joe Molloy was fiercely proud of his Coventry heritage and that pride was instilled in the company from its earliest days: we see ourselves as ambassadors for the city and are delighted to be involved with the Pioneering The Future exhibition alongside other major established and emerging UK automotive industry names that were established in the region, such as Triumph Motorcycles and Warwick Manufacturing Group,” says Concept Group managing director, Bruno Speed. “Concept Group has a global reputation for finding new, more efficient ways to help its customers design and build inspiring concept cars, prototypes and low-volume vehicles and this was an ideal opportunity to showcase our work in a public arena.”

The striking Concept Group exhibition displays the eight stages of car model development as part of modern car design and prototyping processes, from initial sketching through clay modelling, 3D scanning, hard-modelling, painting and demonstration. In this instance, Peter Stevens Design provided initial car designs for Concept Group to demonstrate and illustrate its integrated methodology for the production of prototypes and concept cars.

The company’s innovative digital approach to car design, underpinned by engineering principles and validation processes that are the equal of those followed by global vehicle manufacturers, has seen Concept Group chosen to produce a number of renowned concept cars, including projects for Jaguar and Land Rover, as well as for many other major vehicle manufacturers that remain unpublicised due to commercial confidentiality.

“Whether we are working on a concept car or a bespoke production vehicle, engineering is at the heart of all of Concept Group’s processes and design projects,” comments Bruno Speed. “We take the inspirational designs of vehicle manufacturers and bring them to life, delivering to the value and timescales that they demand.”

The Pioneering the Future display is one of the 12 completely redesigned exhibition spaces and a crucial part of the renovation of Coventry Transport Museum.

“The redevelopment of the museum was centred on telling the story of Coventry’s rich transport heritage, but it is not just about the past,” explains Coventry Culture chief executive, Gary Hall. “The city still has a vibrant transport industry so I also wanted to include a brand new exhibition showcasing some of the companies that are leaders in this field; the services that Concept Group International provides and the benefits it brings to the automotive industry made it an ideal partner to demonstrate that Coventry is still at the forefront of this sector.”

Concept Group managing director Speed echoes this view: “Coventry is historically Britain’s true ‘Motor City’ and with an availability of skilled labour, extensive transport links, ready-made industrial premises and automotive giants such as Jaguar Land Rover, Aston Martin Lagonda and Bentley all in close proximity, the region is perfectly placed to inspire continued growth,” he says. “With the Coventry Transport Museum doing a wonderful job of celebrating the city’s prestigious past, it makes perfect sense for Concept Group International to be one of the companies demonstrating the Coventry area’s future as a hub of automotive excellence not just within the UK, but globally.”
