Award-winning SME to share ultra-efficient power technologies with potential partners and investors at prestige event

Oxford, UK, 25th February 2015... Innovative UK company, Libertine FPE, will present its ground-breaking linear power technology at the prestigious Monaco CleanEquity® conference, held in the Principality on March 5th-6th. Libertine is one of only 25 companies chosen to present, selected from over 600 assessed by Innovator Capital Ltd, the London-based investment bank that specialises in the cleantech industry.

“CleanEquity Monaco is one of the world’s leading forums on clean technologies and resource efficiency, and is the ideal platform for us to engage potential investors, partners and customers,” explained Libertine’s CEO, Sam Cockerill. “Free piston engines promise a vast improvement in combustion efficiency, unlocking the way to lower cost power generation. Our linear electrical machine and free piston gas expander technologies address the remaining challenges identified by free piston engine developers. ”

Unlike conventional internal combustion engine-generators, which use a crankshaft and mechanical powertrain to spin a rotating electrical machine, Libertine’s technology uses a linear electrical machine to generate power directly from the piston’s motion. This approach produces a third more power from the same fuel input, is dramatically simpler and is easily scaled to suit applications from 1kWe to over 100kWe. Libertine is also putting its free piston gas expander technology to use in small heat-to-power systems, where the input energy is provided by a waste heat source rather than a fuel.

The Monaco conference comes immediately after Libertine’s success at the London CleanTech Innovate event (held on 12thFeb), at which the company won the €20,000 Climate-KIC cash prize and was judged ‘an outstanding ambassador for UK innovation’. Cleantech Innovate showcases early stage companies that, with the right investment, will underpin the UK’s green economy, and is sponsored by both the Department of Energy and Climate Change, and Innovate UK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board).

Libertine is currently involved with a number of activities with the UK Government. “It is rewarding to be recognised as one of the leading companies in the country developing clean power technology,” said Cockerill. “The UK is committed to a greener future and it is very beneficial for Libertine to have its support.”

The company is also one of only 16 chosen to attend the Clean and Cool Mission to San Francisco in January and March. The trade mission selected the best UK cleantech companies with high growth potential and is sponsored by the UK government through UKTI and Innovate UK.

About Libertine
Libertine makes ‘Linear Power Systems' that enable the development of low cost, high efficiency appliances for small scale power generation, heating, cooling and transport. Libertine’s technologies combine linear electrical machines with linear gas expander systems and can be applied in a wide range of small scale energy conversion applications. Libertine’s patented and lab-proven technology dispenses with the crankshaft and other mechanical powertrain components that contribute to the high cost and low efficiency of today’s small power generation technologies.
