Federal-Mogul Motorparts Braking Receives Quality Award from Volvo Cars

Gothenburg, Sweden, 8th December 2014… Federal-Mogul Motorparts, a division of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: FDML), has been honoured with the Volvo Cars Quality Excellence (VQE) Award for outstanding supplier quality at its braking plant at Ploiesti in Romania. The prestigious award was secured by the facility, which manufactures Jurid® brand brake pads, following continuous assessment under Volvo’s Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) system.

Volvo Cars presents VQE Awards to suppliers who excel in quality and manufacturing disciplines. Based on a set of fundamental quality and engineering disciplines, it means that the supplier’s facility has been assessed on manufacturing process and systems capability, on-going performance, and plant impact. It has also received customer endorsement. Winning and maintaining VQE status is recognition that a supplier’s facility is the best in the business.

To receive a VQE Award, a supplier is rated by Volvo Cars across a range of metrics. Federal-Mogul’s Ploiesti plant achieved success with no line stoppages, zero defects and 100% OTTR (On Time To Requirement) delivery. The site’s quality certifications – ISO TS16494, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 – were also audited.

The brake pads manufactured at Ploiesti are OE-quality service replacements for vehicles using Volvo’s P2 platform, which include the S60, S80, and V70.

The plant, which has been supplying Volvo Cars since production commenced in 2012, currently operates two production lines manufacturing friction pads for passenger vehicles. Installation of a third line has commenced and a fourth line, for commercial vehicle applications, is scheduled to be added in 2015. Together these will increase the installed capacity at Ploiesti by 75 percent.
