Continued investment in new facilities increases capacity and scope of work at leading automotive engineering and design consultancy; brings new customers

Coventry, UK. 8th October 2015... Iconic German vehicle manufacturer Borgward marked its return to the global marketplace with the unveiling at the recent Frankfurt IAA motorshow of a new SUV concept car that was built by leading engineering and design consultancy, Concept Group International.

Two BX7 demonstrators were produced by the British company, which has a long track record of success in delivering stunning concept and pre-production prototype models to the highest quality, often to very tight time schedules.

The Borgward project progressed as Concept Group completed a significant expansion of its Longford, Coventry headquarters. Driven by growing demand from existing global vehicle manufacturer clients and first commissions from three major new customers, the company installed two new design and build studios and added a fourth, full-size paint booth. As well as providing the capacity needed to meet the demands of sustained business growth, the investment in new facilities has also increased the company’s ability to provide leading edge solutions for vehicle design, build and evaluation.

“The Borgward design team saw examples of Concept Group’s work at the Geneva motor show in March of this year and approached us shortly afterwards,” explains Concept Group managing director, Bruno Speed. “We are delighted to have been integral to the presentation of the new BX7 model at Borgward’s home show in Frankfurt, the perfect location for the unveiling of the marque’s first new vehicle for more than 50 years.”

Speed continues: “Despite the tight timeframe, Borgward’s group design director and chief designer were impressed by Concept Group’s capability and persuaded their board to task us with the production of two of its three show cars; CEO Ulrich Walker and Christian Borgward, the grandson of founder, Carl Borgward, were clearly delighted with the result as the BX7s were presented to a receptive media audience in Frankfurt and broadcast worldwide.”

The Borgward project is indicative of the time-sensitive work that requires leading facilities and a high level of discretion. Concept Group’s vehicle design facilities are considered to be the equal of many major vehicle manufacturers, and the recent expansion comes at a vital time as business growth necessitates larger facilities to ensure client confidentiality is maintained.

“Investment is core to the continued success and growth of Concept Group and ensuring that we remain at the forefront of our business sector,” says Speed. “The new facilities at our Longford headquarters optimise existing processes and give us the capacity to take on more projects, both for new clients and increasingly, for existing vehicle manufacturer customers whose own design and prototyping facilities are over-stretched by the demands of personalisation and bespoke vehicles: we will continue to strive for the advancement of Concept Group’s business while remaining faithful to the principles of high-quality, innovative work instilled by our founder, the late Joe Molloy.”

Further evidence of Concept Group’s design principles and expertise can be seen in an exhibition at the recently reopened Coventry Transport Museum, which has benefitted from a 15-month, £9.5m regeneration. A striking exhibition by the company displays the eight stages of car model development as part of modern car design and prototyping processes, from initial sketching through clay modelling, 3D scanning, hard-modelling, painting and demonstration. As one of the key participants in the Pioneering The Future exhibition, Concept Group is showcasing its innovative, engineering-led approach to vehicle design, build and validation to provide a modern twist on the exhibition’s celebration of Coventry’s industrial heritage.
