9Trees National Allotment Week 9Trees woodland

For Immediate Release

United Kingdom, Friday 4th August 2024

9Trees.org, a non-profit organisation committed to improving soil health and boosting woodland spaces, is enthusiastically gearing up to celebrate National Allotments Week from 7th to 13th August 2023. This year the theme is 'Soil Health', something that resonates deeply with 9Trees.org's mission and ethos.

9Trees.org believes that the health of our allotments and the prosperity of our woodlands are inextricably linked. Just as diverse, healthy soil is critical for the growth and sustainability of allotments, it is equally vital for woodlands. This holistic view of soil health forms the basis of the organisation's work and serves as its guiding principle.

"We are excited to celebrate National Allotments Week, an event that underscores the significance of allotments in our society and the importance of maintaining healthy soil," says Michael Cunningham, Director of 9Trees.org

9Trees.org envisages a future where allotments and woodlands thrive side by side, contributing to healthier ecosystems and stronger communities. By focusing on soil health and fostering awareness around sustainable practices, they hope to make this vision a reality.

National Allotments Week is an ideal opportunity for everyone to discover more about allotments, their importance, and how they can contribute to a sustainable future. Whether you're an experienced gardener or just starting out, join 9Trees.org in celebrating National Allotments Week and learn about how healthier soil can lead to healthier lives.

Healthy soil plays a vital role in our lives in several ways. It is a living ecosystem, full of beneficial microorganisms that help plants thrive. These plants, grown in healthy soil, are often more nutrient-dense, thus directly contributing to our nutritional intake when we consume them. Additionally, the process of creating healthy soil through composting and other sustainable practices helps reduce waste and lessen our environmental impact. Healthy soil also plays a pivotal role in mitigating climate change by acting as a significant carbon sink, capturing and holding carbon that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, consequently improving air quality. Therefore, fostering soil health is not just beneficial for the environment, but also for our well-being and longevity.

As we strive for healthier soil in our allotments during National Allotments Week, let us remember to extend that care and mindfulness to our invaluable woodlands. After all, the prosperity of our woodlands and allotments are interconnected, and together, they form the mosaic of our shared environment.

About 9Trees

https://www.9trees.org/

9Trees are a not-for-profit organisation. Income is reinvested into training, education and management of the woodlands created through subscriptions.

Rather than selling carbon credits, 9Trees are creating carbon sinks in the form of professionally managed broadleaf woodlands for wildlife and people. Their philosophy is simple; Plant 9 trees per person, per year, to help balance one individual’s personal carbon footprint.

By planting the right trees in the right place, 9Trees also promote biodiversity and enhance habitat corridors. Each tree is geolocated, keeping subscribers up to date with their progress until maturity.

9Trees contines to create amazing shelterbelts, habitat corridors as well as nature reserves, this is all possible by forging relationships with landowners all over the UK, offering them a free service that will see the UK once more rich in biodiversity.

9Trees also promotes jobs and skills within the local countryside and woodland sector by bringing communities together to create woodlands that benefit people and wildlife. 9Trees are for nature, wellbeing, rural Jobs and working to balance the UK’s carbon footprint.

9Trees is supported by experts working all over the UK in various capacities, a real team effort. This Pro-bono support is greatly appreciated by Ash and Mike, helping us plant 100,000 trees in the coming years.
