For Immediate Release

Looking for an opportunity that the whole family can get involved in?

Look no further!

We are in the process of creating broadleaf woodlands for wildlife and people, and we need your help to reduce the impact of climate change on our local environment.

Our Eco-matting events which next take place on Saturday 20th August from 09:30 till 15:30 form an important part of the planting process, we need volunteers to help us mulch our saplings. This is a great opportunity for families to get outdoors and learn about climate change mitigation. All materials and tools are provided – just bring sturdy walking boots and waterproofs!

Comment from Director of 9Trees Michael Cunningham, 37.

“Eco matting is a great way for families to spend time together and learn about climate change.”

“It’s also a great way to meet new people and make friends, by giving just a little time and energy to help us plant and care for our woodlands near Sturminster Newton creating a wonderful local oasis.”

“By helping you are making a big difference that will affect the environment and the lives of local people and wildlife for years to come.”

Comment from Landowner, Tom Mettyear of Haddon Copse Farm

“We would have never been able to plant without 9Trees”

“The land was originally pastureland and is being turned into an amazing biodiverse woodland which will become an adventure in natural habitat.”

“This will create a strong increase in biodiversity and showcase a natural bank for local wildlife and wildflowers to flourish.”

About 9Trees

https://www.9trees.org/

9Trees are a not-for-profit organisation. Income is reinvested into training, education and management of the woodlands created through subscriptions.

Rather than selling carbon credits, 9Trees are creating carbon sinks in the form of professionally managed broadleaf woodlands for wildlife and people. Their philosophy is simple; Plant 9 trees per person, per year, to help balance one individual’s personal carbon footprint.

By planting the right trees in the right place, 9Trees also promote biodiversity and enhance habitat corridors. Each tree is geolocated, keeping subscribers up to date with their progress until maturity.

Over the years you will have many woodlands you can visit throughout the UK.

9Trees also promotes jobs and skills within the local countryside and woodland sector by bringing communities together to create woodlands that benefit people and wildlife. 9Trees are for nature, wellbeing, rural Jobs and working to balance the UK’s carbon footprint.

9Trees is supported by experts working all over the UK in various capacities, a real team effort. This Pro-bono support is greatly appreciated by Ash and Mike, helping us plant 100,000 trees in the coming years.

About the Founders

Michael Cunningham has worked in the conservation and wildlife sector for many years and has had a varied career spanning across business, tourism and the arts. Mike started 9Trees because he wanted to make a difference on a national level and for future generations, leaving a legacy to be proud of.

Ash Kent studied Environmental Science and has worked in ecology, woodland management and habitat management for over 10 years. Ash founded 9Trees to take action now against climate change and put a wide range of skills to good use.

Quick facts

There is much more to growing a tree than might meet the eye. You could be forgiven for thinking that it is a simple case of grabbing a spade, digging a sapling into the soil, and letting ‘nature do the rest’. - Director of 9Trees Michael Cunningham, 37
