Ulverston, UK, 22 October 2012. Marl International has been named on the shortlist for the tenth Electronics Weekly Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards in the Manufacturer Export category, following a £400,000 investment in its manufacturing facilities in Ulverston, Cumbria. Winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 12 December 2012 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London Hotel.

Marl is a pioneer in the LED market, a technology that is growing rapidly with increasing interest in energy efficient lighting solutions and its investment puts the company in a prime position to capitalise on this growth. The company achieves direct and indirect exports of approximately 80% of its output. This is the fourth year running that Marl have been shortlisted for an Elektra Award.

Commenting, Marl Managing Director Adrian Rawlinson said, “The Electronics Weekly Elektra awards are extremely prestigious, and we are delighted that we have been recognised in this way. Marl has experienced rapid, profitable growth over the last two years and has funded the investment from the cash that it has generated. With the increased capacity, we are not only ramping up our output of LED lighting modules, but have also entered the electro-mechanical module assembly business. We can offer quality, UK manufactured products at prices competitive with offshore manufacturers.”

“We attribute our success to the fact that we handle the whole process from design to prototyping, volume manufacturing and test on a single site in Ulverston,” continued Rawlinson. “This gives our customers a short lead-time, and the ability to bring to market the latest, most efficient LED lighting technologies ahead of competitors.”

Existing Marl customers include US rail operator Amtrak, the Formula 1 Association, British Energy, the British Waterways Board and Network Rail.
