ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
Launched to celebrate the fifth birthday of the museum, the Design Wing features leading names of the industry including pieces by Japanese design firm Nendo, the collaborative project by architect Tadao Ando and glass brand Venini as well as designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec to name a few.
The opening of the Design Wing marks a new chapter in the way the story of glass is presented to the public - showcasing with infinite charm, extraordinary examples of a seemingly ordinary material.
ABOUT ‘2ND SOUFFLE’
A project founded in both skill and beauty, ‘2nd Souffle’ is the creative response to a ‘Design Series’ brief from MOBILAB Gallery. Created in collaboration with master glass-craftsman, Matteo Gonet, the piece was designed by Atelier Peekaboo. The steel structures powder-coated in black created from square-based tubes, solidify their ambiguous presence in space. This interaction increases the structures’ stature, but the glass bubble itself is also dependent on its support, without which it could not exist. Ultimately the object takes on a global dimension, between control and accident.
ABOUT MOBILAB GALLERY
Collaborations, curation and commitment to the worlds of art & design.
Born from the idea of bridging the gap between art, collectable editions, and functional pieces of design, MOBILAB Gallery is best described as a ‘design edition gallery’, building relationships with designers, artists and craftsmen to provide truly unique series of work.
In initiating and editing copyrighted design projects, they endeavour to create singular stories that go beyond all industrial production constraints. As a result of this, by collaborating with selected designers on realisations that centre around a set theme, MOBILAB Gallery is able to offer limited edition collections that resonate with the desires of every creative eye. It is this commitment to limited editions that positions MOBILAB projects in the interests of both art collectors and functional design enthusiasts alike, making each object become the receptacle of an individual memory for the viewer.
