ABOUT THE 'CHROMATIC' EXHIBITION
'Chromatic' explores the world of colour from three different perspectives: the scientific, the sensory and the playful. The scientific aspect reveals glass colouring techniques and also highlights the role of vision in our colour perception.

Just as every artistic encounter should be informed by pleasure and humour, the exhibition includes a playful sector. Early glass articles were coloured because of tiny percentages of metallic oxides that occur naturally in its basic components.

However, we frequently associate glass as a material with transparency and an absence of colour. The exhibition shatters this popular misconception by focussing on fifty or so pieces in sparkling colours. It showcases a wide range of forms, techniques and renowned artists.

ABOUT THE 'GIANT MARBLE'

Matteo is a a pioneer of the historic art-form of glass blowing. Working from an old factory in the suburbs of Basel, Gonet founded his studio in 2004 with the intention to creativity and innovation back to the world of glass production.

The collaboration with MOBILAB Gallery saw the presentation of both beauty and novel nostalgia in the form of what was simply named the ‘Giant Marble’. Custom made to an array of colour choices, the Giant Marble pieces were an experimentation of both technique and creative curiosity - displayed as part of the ‘Jeux Interdits’ exhibition at the MOBILAB Gallery space in Switzerland.

ABOUT MOBILAB GALLERY

Collaborations, curation and commitment to the worlds of art & design.

Born from the idea of bridging the gap between art, collectable editions, and functional pieces of design, MOBILAB Gallery is best described as a ‘design edition gallery’, building relationships with designers, artists and craftsmen to provide truly unique series of work.

In initiating and editing copyrighted design projects, they endeavour to create singular stories that go beyond all industrial production constraints. As a result of this, by collaborating with selected designers on realisations that centre around a set theme, MOBILAB Gallery is able to offer limited edition collections that resonate with the desires of every creative eye.

It is this commitment to limited editions that positions MOBILAB projects in the interests of both art collectors and functional design enthusiasts alike, making each object become the receptacle of an individual memory for the viewer.
