Meda and Fresenius Kabi end partnership in advance As has already been announced, the partnership involving nutrition products between Meda and Fresenius will be concluded at the end of 1999, following Fresenius' acquisition of Pharmacia & Upjohn's nutrition operations. A separate agreement has been reached between the companies, as a result of which Fresenius Kabi will take over the marketing and sale of the range in the Nordic countries on 1 May 1999. Meda will receive a one-off payment on a par with the anticipated result for the remainder of the term of the agreement up to and including the end of 1999. In 1998, sales of these products totalled around SEK 25 M. "We are currently evaluating our strategy for Meda's continued presence in this area. Our expertise and market awareness in the nutrition sector stretch back over more than twenty years, making us an attractive partner in the area," says Göran Pettersson, managing director of Meda AB. "Our business development function is currentcly evaluating different product alternative." Meda will continue its partnership with Fresenius by acting as the ® representative in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland for HAES -Steril, a plasma replacement agent, and ATG-Fresenius, a product which prevents rejection in conjunction with transplants, in accordance with the agreement which currently applies until the end of the year 2000.
