Medina Palms “Totally Into Turtles”, In Support Of The Local Ocean Trust

Report this content

Medina Palms proudly partners The Born Free Foundation in support of a number of community based wildlife conservation projects in Kenya - one of which is working closely with the Local Ocean Trust (LOT) in Watamu on their Turtle Watch Project.

Medina Palms is also very passionate about their longstanding Mida Creek Mangrove project, where local community members have been educated about the need to protect these beds and have helped the Trust plant over 78,000 mangrove seedlings.  The Local Ocean Trust also has field officers out teaching local fishermen better fishing practises, including sustainable bait collection which does not destroy the mangrove beds.

Another similar cause for celebration recently was the success in stopping the development of the proposed Waa Whale Shark enclosure. This has not been approved by NEMA thanks to lobbying from various conservation-minded groups including Born Free and the Local Ocean Trust, who believe that “Captivity is not Conservation”.  Justice prevails!

Guests at Medina Palms are encouraged to visit and support these worthwhile projects to give something back as part of their Kenyan experience.
