Medivir appoints a new Vice President of Research

Medivir appoints a new Vice President of Research Professor Bertil Samuelsson is appointed new Vice President of Research at st Medivir. He will start December 1 , 1999 and becomes a member of the management team. He is presently Executive Director Medicinal Chemistry at AstraZeneca and is an adjunct professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Stockholm. -Through my adjunct professorship I have had contact with Medivir for many years and I am very impressed by the company's research and portfolio. It is a great challenge for me to direct the continued research at one of the most interesting research companies in Sweden, says Bertil Samuelsson. As Executive Director Medicinal Chemistry at AstraZeneca Bertil Samuelsson has been heading a department responsible for research strategies as well as the technological and scientific development. Bertil Samuelsson has a broad background in pre-clinical research, medicinal chemistry and combinatorial chemistry. Nils Gunnar Johansson and Bo Öberg, the founders of Medivir, will remain in the company and focus their efforts on company strategic matters and Medivir's collaborations with the large pharmaceutical companies as well as university network.
