Unified communications specialist partners with Cisco to break the shackles on online video conferencing with affordable and hassle-free CMR Cloud

Thame, Oxon, UK: 10 June, 2015 - Communications and collaboration specialist, MeetingZone, will become one of the first UK companies to offer a new cloud-based video conferencing service called Cisco Collaboration Meeting Rooms (CMR) Cloud. The service will give enterprise customers a simple and cost effective way to make use of virtual collaboration technology by allowing video conferencing participants to come together in one meeting experience irrespective of the devices and software they use to connect.

Since CMR is a cloud-based service, it optimises cost savings and makes it easier to deploy than most in-house systems. Firms in the UK that have already made substantial investments in video conferencing technology are still not using it as much as they originally intended. This main challenge is largely down to meeting participants not having access to the proprietary, office-based, systems that are needed in order to participate. Cisco CMR Cloud helps remove this barrier and simplifies the user experience by interoperating with a wide range of video conferencing systems. Participants can join using video from standard desktop or mobile video conferencing services like Cisco WebEx to high-end immersive systems such as those from Cisco, Lifesize, Tandberg and Polycom. Anyone joining a meeting can share the same conferencing experience of audio, video and content sharing regardless of location or device.

Cisco CMR Cloud allows companies to make use of their existing investments in hardware and software. With MeetingZone’s affordable, subscription-based pricing model, it means avoiding unnecessary capital cost. Customers can make a rapid return on investment, and alleviate the need for internal IT resources to deploy, manage and support the system.

“Cisco CMR Cloud is the glue that sticks all these video conferencing systems together. It’s best thought of as a secure, virtual meeting room in the cloud,” said MeetingZone’s CEO, Steve Gandy. “But whereas traditionally such rooms required participants to have the exact key to gain entry – in other words, they all needed to be on the same system – CMR Cloud lets you give people a skeleton key that opens the door regardless of the technology they’re using.”

He continued: “And since CMR Cloud is delivered from the Cisco WebEx Cloud, our customers can be confident it will give them unparalleled performance, reliability and security, wherever in the world participants may be.”

Unlike many current desktop video conferencing services, immersive conferencing systems offer a high-quality, realistic experience that looks and feels far more like a physical, face-to-face encounter. Systems not only offer extremely high-quality video and audio, but typically also a range of additional features like automatic face-tracking, file-sharing, collaborative white-boarding and the option to record meetings.

MeetingZone will be working closely with customers to ensure the system is deployed in the most appropriate way for their particular businesses.

Notes to editor

US-based users are already seeing big benefits from the system.

For example the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, is using it to link up doctors and cancer researchers around the globe in a way not previously possible. At the same time, it is saving considerable time, money and resources http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/conferencing/collaboration-meeting-rooms-cmr-cloud/moffitt-cancer-center.html]
