MEKO is intensifying its work to reduce the company's climate footprint. As one of the first companies in the independent automotive aftermarket in Northern Europe, MEKO joins the so-called Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international framework for companies that adopt science-based climate targets to limit global warming.

"Taking climate action is an important factor in enabling sustainability and safe mobility also in the future. I am therefore proud that MEKO is now taking this step and started work on setting climate goals in line with science, so that we contribute to limiting climate change", says Louise Wohrne, Head of Sustainability at MEKO.

MEKO enables mobility for millions of car owners by repairing and maintaining vehicles in eight countries in an extensive network of 600 stores and over 20,000 workshop customers. MEKO is the market leader in the independent vehicle aftermarket in Northern Europe.

By joining the Science Based Targets initiative, MEKO demonstrates its ambition to continue to be a leader in the industry's green transition and contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

SBTi aims to support companies worldwide to halve climate-damaging emissions before 2030 and achieve so-called net zero emissions before 2050. MEKO is committed to setting short-term targets to reduce group-wide emissions in line with climate science and SBTi. In addition, MEKO has committed to setting a long-term goal of net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

"This is a milestone in MEKO's sustainability work where we want to raise our ambition and make even more of a difference. We will now work focused to take the next step in the process where the goal is to get our goals approved," says Louise Wohrne.

SBTi is a collaboration between the organizations CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
