Mekonomen Group finalist for Retail Awards - Logistics initiative of the year
Mekonomen Group's forceful logistics investment in Sweden is one of the finalists to win Retail Awards in the category Logistics investment of the year, which will be awarded on October 20, 2021.
The merger of Mekonomen Group's two logistics organizations and central warehouses in Sweden began in 2016 as part of the work to extract synergies, following the successful acquisition of MECA Scandinavia a few years earlier. The new joint central warehouse in Strängnäs was rebuilt and expanded with an automation solution for picking and packing in parallel with the implementation of a new working method. At the end of 2020, the final transformations were carried out by moving MECA's supply of goods to the new warehouse and the Bileko Car Parts project was fully implemented and completed, with very good results.
“Today, approximately 75 percent of all order lines are handled through our automation solution. The merger and automation have contributed to us creating better accessibility for our customers. We have just over 80,000 items stored in our central warehouse and through cross-docking we enable consolidated deliveries to our customers of far more items. We have also increased the quality in terms of reduced error picks and created favorable and scalable conditions for further improvements in the future”, says Christofer Kohn, Managing Director of Bileko Car Parts, which is the wholesale company in Mekonomen Group's business area MECA / Mekonomen.
The company is now taking the next step in optimizing its operations by focusing on transports and its environmental impact.
“Mobility is a pillar in society where we play a key role in enabling mobility and creating local and regional accessibility also in the future. We have historically focused a lot on optimization and minimizing the environmental impact of our deliveries from central warehouse to retail level. We now have good conditions for focusing even more on last mile deliveries”, Christofer Kohn continues.
