Mekonomen Group launches the new E+ standard for electric car service and transforms workshops
Today, Mekonomen Group launches a new standard for electric car service, E+, which guarantees that the workshops have the right skills and equipment to take care of electric cars. The launch is a response to the fact that today there is no clear standard - despite the fact that electric cars are becoming more common and will increase sharply in number in the future. Already next year, Mekonomen Group will have 1,500 electric car workshops that meet the requirements of E+.
Electric cars are expected to account for about ten percent of new car sales globally in 2025 and 30 percent of sales in 2030*. The transition to take care of the growing electric car fleet has come a long way in the industry - but there are still no clear industry standards. Together with the company's workshops, Mekonomen Group therefore takes a leading role in the industry's transformation by launching the new E+ standard. The standard will be a proof for all electric car owners that the workshop has the right skills and equipment and that the service is of the highest level. During next year, 1,500 of the almost 3,600 workshops in the company, will have met the requirements for the standard. An increase by 500 per cent from the current 250 electric car workshops.
”We began the transition towards electric cars as early as 2012, when we launched the first electrical and hybrid training courses for our workshops. Since then, we have supplemented our product range with charging boxes and other electric car accessories as well as established electric car concepts for workshops in Denmark, Norway and Poland. We are now taking the next step to lead the development in the industry by clarifying the requirements for an electric car workshop through the E+ standard. We base our standard on our markets' national legislation and recommendations regarding training, handling and conditions for taking care of electric cars. This is why E+ will be an inspiration for future initiatives in our markets. Our aim is to make it easy and safe for electric car owners to choose our workshops”, says Petra Bendelin, Director Business development and Strategy of Mekonomen Group.
