Vehicle inspection to move into Mekonomen’s premises

AB Svensk Bilprovning (the Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection Company) and Carspect AB, owned by Finnish A-Katsastus Group OY, are to become Mekonomen’s tenants.

“Adjacent to Mekonomen’s outlets for the sale of spare parts and workshops, premises are being constructed for vehicle inspection that will be leased out and operated by other companies. This will generate additional business for the Mekonomen units,” says Nils-Erik Brattlund, Mekonomen’s Establishment Manager.

On 1 July, the vehicle-inspection monopoly will cease. This has opened the door to new players. In Sweden, the Finnish vehicle inspection will compete with Svensk Bilprovning. Carspects’ strategy is to offer customers high availability and to be located “where people are” (according to the website).

“Svensk Bilprovning will also be investing in smaller units in high-availability locations. Through this strategy, we will become a perfect landlord, since we are and will be located in vehicle clusters,” says Nils-Erik Brattlund.

As a first step, Mekonomen will lease premises for vehicle inspection in Sundsvall, Täby, Södertälje, Jönköping and Luleå. The vehicle inspection operation will be distinct from Mekonomen’s customer reception and workshop.
