Generational shift at Mellby Gård: Johan Andersson appointed Chairman of the Board, Mikael Helmerson named new CEO
Starting January 2025, Mellby Gård will enter a new chapter in its leadership. Rune Andersson will step down as Chairman of the Board, with his son, Johan Andersson, succeeding him. Concurrently, Johan will transition out of his role as CEO, passing the baton to Mikael Helmerson. Additionally, Sven Knutsson will assume the position of deputy CEO.
This carefully planned leadership transition reflects Mellby Gård’s long-term commitment to sustainable growth and family-driven values. Johan Andersson, after an eleven year tenure as CEO, emphasized the timing of this evolution.
“This is a natural and forward-looking transition for the company. It’s important to make these changes during a period of strength and well-being, both for Mellby Gård and our family. This shift ensures continuity while paving the way for continued success”, says Johan Andersson.
Mellby Gård has achieved significant progress during the last decade. The Group’s turnover has reached nearly SEK 20 billion[1], with turnover, profitability and employee numbers nearly quadrupling over the past decade. Guided by its ambition to improve year-on-year, Mellby Gård continues to seek new opportunities to enhance its operations and performance.
The reshaped leadership team will position Mellby Gård to address future challenges with agility and focus. Mikael Helmerson will oversee day-to-day operations as CEO, allowing Johan to concentrate on strategic matters, including acquisitions and capital allocation. Johan underscored the benefits of this dynamic.
“By focusing the right resources on the right areas, we strengthen our ability to meet our goal of exceeding last year’s results. Furthermore, I believe that there can be benefits in changing CEO’s once in a while, to inject new energy and perspectives, and I’ve now had this role for a bit more than a decade”, says Johan Andersson.
Mikael Helmerson brings extensive experience to his new role. Having served as CEO of Roxtec, deputy CEO of Mellby Gård, and Chairman of the Board of Feralco, he is well-versed in both operational leadership and strategic planning. He also sits on the boards of AcadeMedia and Roxtec.
“I am deeply honoured by the Andersson family’s trust, particularly as the first CEO from outside the family. While my responsibilities expand, my focus remains on ensuring Mellby Gård’s sustained success. I have immense confidence in the expertise and commitment of our team, both at the head office and across our Group companies”, says Mikael Helmerson.
Johan Andersson shares his confidence in Mikael’s capabilities:
“With Mikael’s strong track record, I am confident he will excel in this role. Together, we will continue to grow and strengthen Mellby Gård. Although we are evolving, our identity as a family business remains at the core of everything we do. Mellby Gård remains a fully family-owned company with the family as board members. The family will maintain an active role in guiding the Group’s growth and strategy, blending passion with sound decision-making”, says Johan Andersson.
