METRO CEASES PUBLICATION OF EVERYDAY Metro International S.A. ("Metro"), the leading international daily newspaper group, today announced its decision to cease publishing Everyday, its freely distributed afternoon newspaper in Stockholm. This decision has been taken in order to enable Metro to focus exclusively on building upon the success of the Metro morning editions in Sweden, and to continue the aggressive international expansion. The international expansion is reflected in the announcement earlier today of a partnership agreement in Toronto between Metro and its competitor, Torstar's Today title. Metro and Torstar will jointly publish and distribute 180,000 copies of Metro Today from 1 May 2001. Metro editions have also been launched in Montreal, Canada and Barcelona, Spain, in the last two weeks. Pelle Törnberg, President and CEO of Metro International S.A., commented: "We are committed to our aggressive international expansion, as we have demonstrated with our two most recent launches. This expansion, as well as the development of Metro in Sweden and our 15 other editions is our primary focus. Everyday has fulfilled our expectations in terms of readership growth, but advertisers remain to be convinced and we prefer to focus our efforts on the Metro free morning newspaper business, which continues to grow strongly." The last edition of Everyday, launched in Stockholm last August, was distributed in Stockholm today. Metro International was demerged from Modern Times Group MTG AB in August 2000. A and B shares in Metro were distributed to MTG shareholders and are listed on the NASDAQ National Market and the OM Stockholm Exchange O List (symbols: MTROA and MTROB).
