METRO NOW MOST READ NEWSPAPER IN NORDIC REGION Metro International S.A. ("Metro"), the international newspaper group, today announced that it is now the most read newspaper in the Nordic region. The Metro editions in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Helsinki and Copenhagen now have a combined daily readership of over 1.6 million. This result has also come at a time when a large number of Metro's competitors have been losing ground. Gallup Media (Finland) and Gallup Denmark have released readership surveys, which report that the number of daily readers of Metro in the Helsinki region has risen to 222,000, and that the number of daily readers of MetroXpress in Copenhagen has already reached 237,000. Metro has, therefore, further consolidated its leading position as the most read free newspaper and second most read daily newspaper in the Helsinki area, only two years after launch. The survey in Copenhagen was conducted in the weeks immediately following the launch of MetroXpress on 4 September 2001. The survey also established that MetroXpress is already the most read newspaper among young people (15-29 years of age) in the Greater Copenhagen area. Pelle Törnberg, President and CEO of Metro International, commented: "This is great news for Metro. Our leading position in the Nordic market enables Metro to offer unique marketing opportunities and advertising packages."
