MaMA needs to urgently raise over £2,000 to support family after house fire
Fatima cannot walk unaided, yet manages to directly support six young grandchildren on her own. On Friday 19th August her home caught fire and opportunistic looters stole what did not burn, including clothes and all their food stocks from the harvest.
MaMA is a registered Charity working to make a difference at a local level in Mandimba District, Mozambique, a group of 75 villages in sub-Saharan Africa. This area is one of the poorest areas in the world, with abysmal health outcomes.
Fatima, Salima 3, Rafiki 6, Castro 8, Albertina 10, Regina 11 and Laura 13 URGENTLY need a new home, clothes, household goods including cooking pots, wooden cooking spoons, buckets, washing bowl, plates & cups. The house alone will cost £2,000 GBP from local materials.

MaMA has a strong relationship with Mandimba, built up through visits during the last six years. It is one of the poorest places in the world, ranking seventh from the bottom in the poor health and poverty league tables. In 2008, they did a survey of the healthcare in this district and our recommendations and strategies form the basis of our activity there and underpin our fundraising efforts this year.
By working in one geographically specific area, they are able to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of our activity. Mandimba District is a group of 75 villages, total population around 200,000 people. Our actions there are driven by local aspirations and needs and are developed at the pace of the community. Successful projects can then be transferred to other villages, using local skills and labour to ensure necessary ownership and sustainability of MaMA actvities.
