Considered stopping of production at Metsä-Botnia's Kaskinen pulp mill will not affect production at M-real's BCTMP mill

As announced on 5 November 2008, Metsä-Botnia is considering a temporary
shutdown of production at its Kaskinen pulp mill. The permanent closure of the
mill is also an alternative under consideration.
M-real's BCTMP mill is located next to the Metsä-Botnia pulp mill. M-real and
Metsä-Botnia share several production resources, such as wood handling and raw
and waste water treatment plants as well as operations related to energy,
warehousing and shipping.
"The BCTMP mill will continue operating at full production rate despite
stopping production at the pulp mill. Our own mills and our customers will
receive high-quality BCTMP also in the future," says Mikko Helander, CEO of
M-real.
Kaskinen BCTMP mill:
Start-up in August 2005
Annual capacity of bleached BCTMP 300,000 tonnes
Annual consumption of wood 750,000 m3
